Working Papers

To hold a job in New York State, those ages 14-17 need an employment certificate or "working papers."

Here is the process for students to obtain working papers:

  1. Download and complete the Application for Employment Certificate – AT-17.
  2. A parent or guardian must sign Part I of the application. Working papers cannot be issued without this signature.
  3. A physician must sign the Physical Fitness Certification form or you must have a physical not more than a year old.
  4. Mail your completed application and a copy of one form of identification (birth certificate, passport, driver’s license or permit) to: Tappan Zee High School, ATTN: Ms. Shanley – Main Office, 15 Dutch Hill Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962. Paperwork may also be emailed to mshanley@socsd.org. Please include a phone number in case Ms. Shanley has questions regarding the application.
  5. The working papers (card) may be mailed back to the applicant or picked up from the Security Desk between 7:30AM-3:30PM. Indicate which option you choose when submitting the application.
